It all started one clear summer night. A couple friends, some acoustic guitars and the tip of an infinite shoreline they used to call a jamspace. This small body of land surrounded by open ocean and lined with distant mountains swallowing the night sky soon became known as Mystery Point. It was a secret midnight hideout where the only semblance of crowd was the gentle sound of crashing waves. A place where you could sing at the top of your lungs and no one else would ever know. But nothing gold can stay and, as with all things, change was imminent. Trading bongos and hollow bodies for amp stacks and tangled cables, Mystery Point, the place, soon became Mystery Point, the band.
A four-piece rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Mystery Point mixes rock, pop, acoustic, jazz and big band to form a sound that blurs the lines of stagnant genres and instead explores the infinite spaces between. Founded by original members Chandler Tully (vocals/guitar), Travis Gingrich (guitar/vocals) and Mike Ross (drums), Mystery Point began working from the ground up to write their own original songs and play as many shows as possible.
In the summer of 2008, Mystery Point recorded and self-produced 10 tracks at Blue Wave Studios and Turtle Studios and by spring 2009, they released their debut album “aside”. The band also began building an ever supportive fan base and playing bigger shows at local venues including The Roxy, The Railway Club, The Bourbon and The Red Room. Not forgetting their roots, the band also returned to the beach, but this time on a stage, to play at Sea Fest, Wings Over White Rock and the Canada Day Beach Party.
Most recently, the band replaced their former bass player with newest member Jeff Child (bass) and they have begun working on a follow up to their debut album with 3 songs already recorded at Bear Studios. They can also be found gigging consistently throughout the lower mainland and occasionally, on a clear summer night, you might just find them back at the place that started it all: Mystery Point.
